Speculative Design Showcase “Here After”
This project explored Speculative Design to envision innovative solutions for future challenges in environmental, social, and technological realms. By investigating questions like “How will we live?” and “What technologies will define our future?” students developed a research-driven question that explored their particular concept. Students were asked to create a narrative grounded in both research and imagination, addressing the evolving needs of society.
The design process included collaboration, rapid prototyping, and user testing, ultimately resulting in a branded concept, a future-focused artifact, and a tangible prototype of said artifact. This project reinforced design’s power as a storytelling tool and showcased its potential to tackle complex, real-world problems through creative, forward-thinking solutions.
Hilos Ocultos imagined the design project through a unique lens by making the artifact, the story itself. Hilos Ocultos is an interactive space where audiences can learn, listen, and feel a world 1500 years into the future. It is an archive of knowledge that strives for a world where we live together with the land and survive what’s to come through an exchange with Earth.
The climate in this world in conjunction with the societies that formed question the integrity of the human to their lifeline, to each other, and to the knowledge at our fingertips. Alondra welcomes you to follow Nalani and Nyko, both members of the Tropical Forest Zone, to get an insight on Nalani’s role in the zone, and her role in Earth’s justice.
What if we could foster a culture of intertwined connectivity with Earth for a future with extreme and unpredictable weather through the usable but neglected past at our disposal?
For the best experience, please listen with headphones. Feel free to close your eyes or follow along with Nalani’s Journal, Entry no. 240.
