The Teach a Kid to Vote Challenge
2024 (April), Milwaukee, WI

The Center for 21st Century Studies (C21) is utilizing their Story Cart to engage people of all ages in the voting process. The story cart was created by C21 to engage with people outside of lecture halls and zoom calls. The center realized that there were expert voices they were not hearing from: people who have lived those experiences. Thus, they created a mobile cart to reach people where they are.
Each year they focus on a theme and in 2024, it was Trust and The Vote. With this theme in mind, C21 looked for designs for their “Teach a Kid to Vote Challenge”. This would engage the public on their understanding of the democratic process in the United States and ideally evoke feelings of wanting to learn more about the duty of voting.

This project included designing promotional materials (ex. stickers and t-shirts) to be worn by the Center for 21st Century Studies staff and public of all ages. Stickers and T-shirts had to utilize the slogans provided. A t-shirt design that states: “The Teach a Kid to Vote Challenge!”. As well as stickers with the following slogans: “I taught a kid to vote!”, “A Kid Taught Me to Vote!” and “xx (the xx representing a blank space to be written on) days until I can Vote.”
The target audience was Kindergartners from UWM’s Children’s Learning Center, The Center for 21st Century Studies adults, and the Milwaukee public. The 2024 year’s prompt is Nourishing Trust.
