Gallery Guide and “how-to-zine” Tuck-In
The Haggerty Museum of Art has a new exhibition, Declaration of_ running from January 23 - May 16, 2026. The exhibition marks the 250th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence by exploring what kinds of “declarations” are being made today and who is making them. It highlights accessible forms of contemporary print culture—especially zines and activist prints—from Upper Midwest art collectives and distributors.
The exhibition presents artists from diverse backgrounds—such as educators, activists, immigrants, and veterans—to reflect on evolving ideas of liberty, rights, and American identity.
Sweet Corn Press (design collective) had the pleasure of imagining and designing a gallery guide and “how-to-zine” tuck-in for the exhibition. Reflecting on the content of the exhibition, we decided to go with a newspaper theme to mimic the call to action seen throughout the curated pieces of work. A black and white guide reads beautifully, is on newpaper brand, and allows the reader to focus on the details of each work that they would otherwise not recieve from the exhibition alone.
The interactive zine tuck-in adds a pop of color, allows the reader to take a piece of the exhibition home with them, and ultimately gives them the tools to create something similar to what they just viewed. The hand-drawn graphics and choice of type is in harmony with the hand-intensive work (screenprints, hand-sewn, etc.) seen in the exhibition.
